Currently

I see people doing this every month and so I decided to throw my hat in the ring this month. So here we go!

Listening: I have always love Gilmore Girls. I was so excited when they put the show up on Netflix but I haven't had time to watch it last semester but this break has lent itself to lots of time to watch. I feel like this is my last time to really enjoy it before school starts tomorrow.

Loving: I am so bad about cooking food for myself. This is a habit I have been trying to break. I also just feel better about myself when I cook.

Thinking: I know we are just coming off Christmas break but I am just as excited for spring break. Christmas was so busy with my sister's engagement that I really did not have time to relax so I am excited for the next big break.

Wanting: I need more time I feel like to get everything done. I just need more time but don't we all.

Needing: I still have a few more things to get together for the students to return tomorrow. We had an inservive day today but I still was not able to get everything done.

Yes: More cooking at home.
Maybe: I love reading. It is one of my favorite past times but I just have not had the time to read and it is something I want to get back into the habit of.
I wish: I come from a close family but as we all get older, we seem to be spreading out. One is living in Tennessee and another is going to be studying abroad this semester in Rome. I enjoyed spending time with them over the break but I still wished I had more time with them.

Make sure you check out Farley for more currently fun!

New Year, New Grade, New School

I am going to be starting my third year of teaching this year and I am so excited. I am back to teaching 4th grade this year, hence the name change. I am glad that I am only going to be teaching math and science this year.

I do love having one class all year but as far as prep work goes, it is not that fun. This way I only have to worry about planning and prepping for two classes each day. It does make it a little easier especially since 4th graders have 3 STAAR tests to take. I can really focus in on having meaningful math lessons to prepare them for the STAAR this year.

I am jumping a little ahead of myself right now because the new year hasn't even started yet and I am still working on getting my room ready for the year. It has been a little busy because all last week we had professional development off campus. It was great and I learned a lot that I am going to include in my classroom for this year but it has meant limited time in my classroom so far. Luckily, we are at our school all week so I should have more time to work in my room for the kids to come next week.

I have been quite busy at home this year getting things ready. I am determined to be much more organized this year so I have been working on putting some binders together to help me with that. I only have a few so far and I'm hoping it is enough to make it through the year but if not, I will just have to add some more.

These are only a few of them for now and they are pretty empty right now but I am sure I will fill them up as the year goes.

I'm also trying to get things ready for the first day/week of school. I know that I am not teaching reading but I still think that it is really important. I have ordered some books to give to my homeroom as a welcome back to school gift. I am teaching at a Title I school this year and I am sure that a lot of kids probably have very little if any books at home. I hope that they will appreciate the gift.

This has been a long post back. If anyone has some ideas for the first week back at school, please let me know. I really appreciate any advice.

Project Time

Anyone who has been teaching will know that one of the most important things is to stay organized. You have to know what you have and where it all is. Now I have a few big drawers that are just filled with everything. The problem is that I have no order to it all. Everything is all kind of jumbled up together. I wanted something that would help me know where exactly everything is in my room. I have seen these teacher toolboxes all over Pinterest so I decided it was time for me to make one.

I set off to Lowes and picked up one of their stacked drawers. I am terrible at remembering to taking pictures. It has 22 drawers. It is also came in a pretty blue color. I thought about painting it but I figure it would take to long to dry since the air is extra humid right now in Houston with all of the rain we have been getting. I used the bright polka labels from Kristen Doyle. I did edit a few of them to meet the needs I had for my classroom. It took a bit but I am very happy with the final product of it.

I am very excited to bring it to my classroom and get just a little more organized.

In Full Swing

This seems to always happen when I start blogging. I do it for a little bit but then I forget all about it. I had so many ideas of what to post about at the end of the year but I just never go to it. Then the whole summer seemed to pass and I was sucked right back into the world of getting my classroom ready and inservices. I do have to say with this new school, our principal does not have the need to micromanage us so we had lots of time to work in our classrooms to get them ready.

Now we are well into the school year. In fact we just had progress reports go out on Monday and we ended the week with parent conferences. We are even staring into the end of September. Today is the first day of fall and I am hoping it is going to bring some cooler weather for the Houston weather.

If you are looking for someone who is much better at this than me, you should really check out my cousin's blog. She is a first year teacher teaching the 2nd grade. She has a lot of very cute ideas so you should definitely check her blog out.

Now I go back to searching the internet for cute ideas to use in my classroom.

Welcome

Hello!!!

I have finally decided to enter the world of educational blogging. I know that there are a plethora of education blogs out there and I think it is time for me to throw my two sense in there.

I am currently finishing up my first year of teaching the 4th grade in public school. Next year, I will be entering the world of private school and the 5th grade. I really want to be much more prepared for the 5th grade than I was for 4th grade. At least this time I know what I am going to be teaching way earlier than last year.

I'm excited for the summer so I can spend a lot of time research all the fun activities I can do for my 5th graders next year. I wish I was on summer vacation like a lot of other states but here in Texas, we need to finish up our 180 days of school. Luckily that means just two weeks to go.
